topic
Located close to Akihabara train station, the lively main gate to the district, this project develops an interspace between the road level and the station platforms with a kind of small automated media centre. The interior offers a range of different spaces with varying degrees of publicity and privacy, working together or apart to attract visitors to stay for a couple of minutes or hours in passing. Research and design elements are thereby closely connected. Thus this project refers very specific japanese topics condensed in Akihabara: manga lounges (manga kissa), the omnipresent displays of vendors, the himatsubushi phenomenon (to avoid indefinite time periods in the everyday life) among others.
